Charlsa Mae Starling was born to Angus and Alma Roberts on August 29, 1929 in Kaufman Texas. She attended Carlisle high school and would later marry in Henderson, Texas before moving to Garland in 1954. She married Charles Edwards Mills and from this union came Robert and Alice Mills. Later she met and married Albert(Mutt) Starling and from this union came Betty and Billy Starling. Moma Charlsa as she was known to everyone, worked several jobs in her 95 years here on Earth. She worked in several skilled nursing facilities, she did custodial work, she did child care in private homes and at her own home, She also worked and managed the neighborhood laundromat from which she retired. Moma Charlsa raised her three sisters and several grandchildren and neighborhood children. If you had the honor of knowing Moma Charlsa you knew that her home was open to anyone that needed a place to stay.
Some of her hobbies included spending time with family at the casino, she also loved eating out and riding around since she never learned to drive. She loved fishing, gardening and watching game shows like, The Price is Right, Family Feud, and Let’s Make a Deal. One of her past time favorites included listening to gospel music and watching church services on TV.
Charlsa was preceded in death by her parents, Angus and Alma, her husband Albert, her two sons, Robert and Billy, her sisters Ruth Helen, T-Bertha, Sarah Davis, Mary Mays and Shirley Hicks, She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roger, N.B and R.B Hart, and her three grandchildren. Tyrone, KeKe, Sharetta. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Betty Starling and Alice Mills of Garland, her sister Beulah Jackson of California, and her sister Faye Taylor of Garland. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will miss her dearly.
