Lucius H. "Lou" Stone
Lucius H. "Lou" Stone, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
He was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Washington, D.C., to Harold Stone and Virginia Lee Virgilio Stone. Later in childhood, he moved to Findlay.
Lou graduated from Findlay High School in 1958. His academic journey continued at Bowling Green State University, where he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. During his time there, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and participated in ROTC. After college, Lou served honorably in U.S. Army as a 2nd lieutenant in the Infantry at Fort Hood, Texas.
He married Janet L. Kurt on Sept. 15, 1962. They met during summer jobs at Kodak in Findlay and began their married life in Fort Hood, Texas. They were blessed with two children and opportunities for worldwide travel and family memories until Janet's passing in 1994. Lou married Mary Jo Dethloff in 1999. Their time together was filled with travel and memories with their grandchildren until Mary Jo's passing in 2009.
Lou began his professional career with Marathon Oil Co in Findlay in 1964, where he served in various roles with dedication and expertise. His career took him on exciting assignments to London and Singapore. Lou retired in 1991 as Treasurer from Marathon Oil.
Lou had an avid interest in history, financial markets, and the economy. During his retirement years, he enjoyed exploring the Texas countryside and driving places in his car.
Lou is survived by his son, Lucius P. Stone of Marietta, Georgia; daughter, Jennifer Newton and her spouse Bob of Fulshear, Texas; grandchildren, Alex Newton and his spouse Alaina of Katy, Texas, Abby Schildhammer and her spouse Tommy of Richmond, Texas, Andy Newton of Kemah, Texas, and Adam Newton of Richmond, Texas; and great-granddaughter, Riley Grace Schildhammer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet L. Kurt; parents, Virginia L. Virgilio and Harold Stone; second wife, Mary Jo Dethloff; and brother, Dennis Stone.
For the past nine years, Lou lived at Caydance Assisted Living in Katy, Texas. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Caydance staff for their dedicated and compassionate care of Lou. He really enjoyed the men's group outings to the local VFW.
Lou's graveside service will be private at a later date.
