Lawrence Hoerig Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Hoerig

Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Hoerig, 72, of Findlay, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones Monday, April 20, 2026, after an extended illness at OSU Medical Center.

Larry was born July 10, 1953, to Lawrence and Ramon Mae (Dowdy) Hoerig in Tiffin. On March 25, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia "Patty" Kerschner. They recently celebrated 54 years of marriage and 58 years together, a love and bond that started when they were both just teenagers. Patty survives in Findlay.

Also surviving are Larry's sons, Chad (Christy) Hoerig and Todd (Tammie) Hoerig; grandchildren, Grace, Clare, Lilyanna, Lincoln, and Lydia; and siblings, Wanda Davis, David (Sherrie) Hoerig, Dan (Linda) Hoerig, Bridget (Paul) Shoemaker, Theresa Jacobs, and Angie (Tom) Drake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry worked for over 40 years in the Findlay area, first at Eckrich for 19 years followed by 23 years at Brinkman's. He retired in 2019. Larry was an active member of Findlay Moose Lodge No. 698. Through his love of golf, he supported and helped run the Moose Golf League and Moose Golf Scholarship fund-raising activities. Larry enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams, including OSU and the Cleveland Browns. He and Patty held countless Saturday afternoon get-togethers with friends and family over the years, welcoming all that came with open arms and kindness.

Larry was a man full of life. Despite having multiple health challenges since 2018, he never gave up the fight and continued to live life to the fullest. Larry never met a stranger and was a friend to many. His quick wit, humor and kindness made those around him always feel welcome. The impact he had on his sons, Todd and Chad, and their lifelong friends remained evident until his passing and will undoubtedly continue. Larry never missed a chance to support his sons and their friends, attending every football and baseball game and wrestling match he could to show his support. For those who attended high school at Van Buren in the late 80s and early 90s, there's a good chance you got to know and love Larry as his house was often the epicenter for gatherings, with he and Patty welcoming all. His love for those he held closest - his wife, children, and grandchildren, was unmatched. He was so proud of his grandchildren and the bond he held with them was so incredibly special. There's no doubt that if you knew Larry, you were well aware of all of their accomplishments! The incredible amount of love he held for his siblings and their children (nieces and nephews) was also very evident throughout his life, with uncle "Scoop" always showing unwavering love and support. Larry truly lived a life worth living, full of love, friendships and family he held close. He left his mark on so many and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all the doctors and medical staff who cared for Larry over the last several years with his health battles, especially the primary care providers at BVMA. A special thank you also goes out to all the neighbors and friends who supported Larry over the last several years as well. It was amazing for the family to watch the number of people willing to help Larry in any way they could. Your kind words, prayers and actions to support Larry and the family over the last several years were incredibly helpful during some very difficult times. The love that all of you expressed to Larry in so many ways, so many times, will never be forgotten and the family cannot thank all of you enough.

Calling hours for Larry will be from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. A Celebration of Life will be from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Findlay Moose Lodge No. 698.
