Jon Gast Obituary
Jon Louis Gast, 70, of Findlay, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026. He was born May 3, 1955, in Lima, Ohio, to George L. and Janet (Bessire) Gast.
Jon was a 1973 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He married Cheryl Freed, August 17, 1990, and she survives along with his children, Joshua (Crystal) Gast, Jessalyn (Mike) Tester, Amber (Wesley) Bell and Trever (Chelsie Risser) Gast. Jon is also survived by his grandchildren, Jayden, Haley, Bryce(Amber), Chase, Lane, Braylon, Audrina, Reichert, Leighton, Adeline, Nathan, and Eliana; and his sister, Tina (Gary) Oswalt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dana.
Jon was a mail carrier in Findlay for 27 years, retiring in 2015. He was president of NALC Branch No. 143 and started the Letter Carrier Food Drive in Findlay after attending the 1994 Letter Carrier Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching little league baseball, watching his grandkids play sports, family time and participating in 5K runs.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera. His funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the church, where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. Minister Deb Noll will officiate. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
The family asks those attending to please wear something from their favorite sports team. Arrangements have been entrusted to CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jon to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or Cancer Patient Services.
