I had retired before John came on the department, however I knew him prior to his joining. I always liked and admired John. He always had a good smile and was dressed properly and in good taste. I had been able to watch him shoot and it was very obvious he was a very strong man, his gun barely moved in recoil, due to John's strong grip. I attended the visitation, but due to my physical ailments was unable to stay all the way down the church aisle. I finally had to to excuse myself and return to my vehicle. I was sorry not to have had a meeting with his wife and children. As I sometimes say about friends and co-workers who have gone on before - "He was a good guy (or gal)." Without doubt or hezitation, I can say, "He was a good one."

Had an occasion to be with John and his chief, Tom Renninger. As we were leaving the event I casually ask if they were hungry. They replied that they were, I directed John to turn into the next lot, and he did. Neither of them appreciated my humor since it was a Dunkin Donuts lot. Needless to say we didn't stop.
