JL graduated from McComb High School in 1967 and received his BA in Vocational Education in 1996 from University of Toledo. He proudly served in U.S. Air Force from 1968-1972. Upon release from the Air Force, JL worked at B&J Photo as a service manager. In 1979, he opened JL Ewing Electronics, located in downtown McComb until 1989. In 1982, he began his teaching career at Findlay City Schools/Millstream Career Cooperative, teaching electronics and then later Computer Repair and Networking. He retired from teaching in 2011 and was a realtor from 2012-2022.
JL enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and touched the lives of many. He was a long-time member of McComb Rotary club, enjoyed bowling, designing and remodeling projects, working on computers, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was a very caring and loving person who was always willing to help others through his wise words of wisdom, the sharing of his experiences, words of advice, lending an ear to listen, or assistance whenever needed. He had a great sense of humor, was strong in his faith, and loved to cook for family events and gatherings where no one ever left hungry. He made sure the food never ran out. For his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Grandpa's kitchen was always open and ready to serve. His favorite yearly cooking activity was the annual Thanksgiving stuff the bird event where he led the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in chopping and stuffing.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, until the time of JL's celebration of life service at 11:30 a.m. at Hanneman Funeral Home, 370 S. Park Dr., McComb.
