I am so grateful for websites like this. I knew Joan in West Chester when we were working to preserve women's reproductive rights in the late 80's. She was so bright, so witty; her energy and clarity were such a source of motivation. I don't remember the whole conversation, but as I remember Joan was talking about having moved from more conventional religious ideas to ascribing things that happen to the "great mysterious what's-is."
