Jeanette E. Laudick
Jeanette E. (Schmitz) Laudick, 92, of Ottawa, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at The Meadows of Ottawa.
She was born Dec. 14, 1930, in Pleasant Township, Putnam County, to late Hubert and Emma (Recker) Schmitz. She married Richard E. Laudick Jr. on Oct. 7, 1950, and he preceded her in death April 4, 2022.
She is survived by five children, Deborah (Harold) Birkemeier of Ft. Jennings, Jeanne (Michael) Verhoff of Ottawa, Kevin (Julie) Laudick of Glandorf, Joseph (Ann) Laudick of Ottawa, and Annette (Jeff) Kendall of Ottawa; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Jeanette was also preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Katie Laudick and Lori Verhoff; and four sisters, Norma (Bernard) Brown, Helen (Herbert) Teders, Alice (Ralph) Schroeder, and Thelma (Norbert) Vennekotter.
Jeanette graduated from Glandorf High school as salutatorian of her class. She was a former employee of Sylvania Electric Products Co., Ottawa, and also was employed at Putnam Co. Extension office. As an employee at Putnam County Welfare Dept., she was responsible for helping to establish the USDA Food Stamp Program in Putnam County in 1971-72. She was the office manager and head bookkeeper at Putnam County Sentinel from 1972-1985.
Jeanette loved doing genealogy work and had four family history books published.
She was in the original class of Putnam County Master Gardeners in 1994 and was active in the organization for many years. Her hobbies included reading, playing cards, and crocheting where she made over 100 afghans, most of which she gave to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its Altar-Rosary Society, and the church's prayer chain. She also worked on the Church's Sunday Collection Counting group for 10 years.
Jeanette and her husband, Dick, were avid travelers, having traveled all of the 50 states in the U.S. and visiting most of their capital cities. They traveled to 10 European countries in addition to Canada and Mexico.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
