James Russell Obituary

James Scott "Jim" Russell

James Scott "Jim" Russell Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2024.

Jim was born Nov. 28, 1936. He lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

James, affectionately known as "Jim," graduated from Arcadia High School in 1954. He served his country with honor as a Marine from 1954-1958. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years of his career to Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. He was also well-known for his work delivering the Courier and Blade newspapers and for many years he drove the church bus for Ada Full Gospel Church, embodying his commitment to service and community.

Jim was a man of many interests. He had a deep love for electronics of every type and was a connoisseur of Wilson's hamburgers and Kewpee hamburgers, enjoying these simple pleasures throughout his life.

Jim had a profound and deep relationship with God and looked forward to seeing Jesus at the end of his life on this planet. His faith was a guiding force in his life, providing comfort and direction through all of life's challenges and joys.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vernice (Compton) Greer Russell; sons, Scott Russell and wife Nikki Rettig Russell and Chris Russell and wife Leigh Russell; daughter-in-law, Dianne Russell Phillips, who was married to his son, Craig Russell; brother, Todd Russell and wife, Paula Sue. Jim was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Harvey Russell; mother, Luella Agnes (Powell) Russell; son, Craig Steven Russell; first wife, Carolyn Sue (Perkins) Russell; and stepson, Stephan Greer.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of faith, service, love, and commitment will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024, and 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024, until the time of Jim's funeral at 11 a.m., all at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Findlay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ada Full Gospel Church, 1047 State Route 235, Ada, Ohio, 45810, or Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE), designated to missionaries Scott and Nikki Russell, reflecting Jim's lifelong dedication to helping others.
