James Elwood Obituary

James F. Elwood

James F. "Jim" Elwood, 89, of Dunkirk, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Birchaven Village, Findlay.

He was born May 17, 1934, in Ada, to Wilbur and Ethel (Kimble) Elwood. He married Doris (Hiller) on June 10, 1956, and she survives.

Jim graduated from Dola High School in 1952 and was drafted into U.S. Army in July, 1956. He served at U.S. Army Arctic Test Center Ft. Churchill in Manitoba, Canada. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from Whirlpool in 1996 after working 25 years. Jim was a lifelong member of Hardin County Collectors and Restorers Club, Tri-State Gas Engine Association, and Northwest Ohio Antique Machinery Association. His hobbies included collecting and restoring gas engines, especially John Deere, attending tractor and gas engine shows always with Doris, working in the woods, cutting firewood, and "fixin a fire" in the stove.

He is also survived by his children, Michael (Missy Sanders) Elwood, Mary and Bill Hohler, Robert and Jobie Elwood, and Jane and George Fletcher; grandchildren, Lindie Hohler, Brad (Molly Nagy) Hohler, Maggie (Will) Dory, and Shelby (Alex) Ervin; three great-grandchildren, Quinn, Josie, and Lily; sister, Hazel Rodabaugh; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John Elwood, Donald Elwood, Russell Elwood, and Lloyd Elwood; two sisters, Marvel Wilkins and Ruth Isabelle Kohli; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Jim's celebration of life will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Dola Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin Northern Community Center, 8534 State Route 68, Kenton, Ohio, 43326.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada.

Doris and family, sincere condolence on Jim/s passing. He was one of those gentle Elwood men-always reminded me a lot of Lloyd. May he rest in peace with God and heavenly family.

I worked with Jim along time ago at Whirlpool..he was such a sweet man always with a smile. I use to call him “Mr. Green Jeans” because he always wore big overalls to work.sending prayers to his family and friends for their loss

I worked and played cards with Jim for many years at Whirlpool. Sorry to read of his passing. I really enjoyed being around him, you always knew where you stood with him. My thoughts are with you at this time.
