Grover Powell Obituary
Grover H. Powell Sr., 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024.
He was born April 2, 1932, in Columbus, to William and Clara (McKenzie) Powell.
He is survived by his daughter, Darla Penix; grandchildren, Dawn Clark, Heath Clark, Kyle Powell, and Karson Abrams; and great-grandchildren, Nolan Powell, Owen Powell, Brandon Clark, Kaitlin Clark, and Cody Clark.
Grover was preceded in death by his parents; and children, Grover Powell Jr., Bryan Powell, and Sabra Powell-Abrams.
Grover served in U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a member of The Chosin Few. After his military service, he spent a career at the Ohio Penitentiary, earning the rank of Major.
The family will welcome friends at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, for Grover's graveside service with honors at Pleasant Cemetery, 14220 Era Rd., Mt. Sterling.
