Georgina Malo Obituary

Georgina (Jeanne) Malo, 90, of Beach Park, IL passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 30, 2022. Jeanne was born at home on the family farm in Walkerton, Ontario. After graduating high school as class valedictorian, she trained to become a registered nurse. Upon graduation, she relocated to Bermuda, where she met her future husband, Robert Malo, who was stationed there in the Air Force. They married in London, Ontario in 1956 and celebrated 65 years of marriage last year. Jeanne's greatest love was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who treasured her family members and embraced every moment with them. She hosted many gatherings at her home, babysat the grandchildren and great grandchildren and surrounded herself with her friends and family, making them feel comfortable and loved. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships in the Carillon community over the past 19 years. Jeanne was a caring woman who dedicated her life to kindness and helping others. Among Jeanne's many hobbies and interests were sewing, card making, reading, crafting and crocheting. Each new baby was blessed with one of her crocheted blankets. If you stopped by her house, you were sure to leave with a kitchen towel, a handmade card or a seasonal craft item. She had a flair for baking including her specialties of butter tarts, coffee-toffee squares and many varieties of cookies. Jeanne also enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. Jeanne took great pride in her profession as a registered nurse. She was Director of Nursing at Rolling Hills Manor Nursing Home in Zion, where she is remembered as a loyal and selfless leader who never hesitated to step in to help with patient care, or to support or train her employees. Jeanne was a loving mother and a role model to her five children who survive her: Sue (Greg) Stevens, Sandy (Julius) Araujo, Joe (Karen) Malo, Michelle (Ray) Menges and Amy Franks (Tom Selear). She was treasured by her seven grandchildren: Dan (Ashley) Roche, Ryan (Danica) Malo, Tom Stevens, Katie Franks, Rachel (Carl) Slater, Ali Franks, and Riley Menges. The four great grandchildren adored their "Ema": Jameson, Bentley, Harper and Theo. Jeanne is also survived by a large extended family still in Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, just last February, her parents, Joseph and Veronica (Letzgus) Ernst, her sisters Cecelia, Marie, Lorraine, Vera and her brother Louis. There will be no services at this time, but a celebration of Jeanne's life will be held at a future date. The family wishes to thank her hospice nurse, Deanna, for her compassionate and dedicated care. Donations to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Jeanne's name (a non-profit rescue/rehab/release facility that she visited frequently) would be welcomed.
