George Keller Obituary

George Keller

George Keller, a beloved member of his community and cherished family man, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at home surrounded by family in St. Charles, Missouri.

Born April 15, 1937, George dedicated much of his life to education, teaching for 33 years at Arcadia High School, where he also made his mark as head basketball coach from 1964-1975. His passion for teaching and coaching inspired countless students and athletes, leaving an enduring legacy in the hearts of those he educated.

George was a committed educator and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took immense joy in spending time with his family, often cheering for his children and grandchildren as they participated in various sports. His fun-loving nature shone brightly during family gatherings, golf outings, and fishing trips, particularly in Canada, where he cherished the beauty of nature and the warmth of family bonds.

His military service in the United States Army from 1960-1962 was marked by dedication and talent; George played on and coached the Army basketball team while stationed in Korea, earning a spot in the 8th Army All-Star basketball team. This experience demonstrated his athletic prowess and highlighted his leadership skills and commitment to teamwork.

George's athletic accomplishments extended into his educational career. George received a full basketball scholarship for his freshman year at The Ohio State University before transferring to Findlay College, where he earned the distinction of NAIA All-American Basketball player in 1960, amassing 1,389 points during his 3-year collegiate career. A standout player during his youth, he held the men's scoring record in Hancock County with an impressive 1,876 points at Cory-Rawson High School. He was even selected for a tryout with the 1960 USA Olympic Basketball team, earning his spot in the competition, but regrettably, did not participate due to an injury. He was also drafted in 1960 by the New York Knickerbockers, now known as the New York Knicks.

Within his family, George is remembered with great fondness by his wife, Karel Keller; son, Chad (Samantha Sean) Keller; daughter, Kim (Ken) Belconis; and son, Heath (Breanna) Keller. His grandchildren, Bailey Belconis, Paige Hunt, Lily Belconis, Jada Keller, Cole Keller, and Addison Keller, brought him immense pride and joy, and he proudly welcomed his great-grandchildren, Harvey Belconis and Leila Hunt, into the family.

George is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Lewis.

He joins several family members in eternal rest, including his father, Wallace Keller; mother, Enid Keller; sisters, Carol Jean Reddick and Joan Basinger; and brother, Wendell Keller.

As those who knew him remember George, they will carry forward his legacy of love for family, passion for coaching, and zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.

Thanks Coach for all your time and effort to teach me in the civics class and on the basketball court. Your efforts as a coach contributed to all of my eighth grade players to experience the game of basketball, make individual contributions on the court, while putting in the work during practice to embrace the joy as they become champions.
