Evelyn R. Reese

Evelyn R. Reese, 99, of Pandora, peacefully passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, in Bluffton.

She was born Jan. 7, 1925, in Mt. Cory, to Myron D. and Ruth (Hauenstein) Moyer. Evelyn graduated from Mt. Cory School in 1942. After attending Bluffton College for a year, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University.

Evelyn married Lehr Jay Reese on July 7, 1946, at her family home in Mt. Cory.

She is survived by their children, Dave (Jan) Reese of Mt. Cory, Kathie Inniger of Columbus, and Jana (Steve) Amstutz of Pandora; daughter-in-law, Joan Reese of Mt. Cory; 15 grandchildren, Matthew (Jenna) Reese, Aaron (Jenn) Reese, Jay (Brittany) Reese, Jeff (Haley) Reese, Alyssa (Steve) Bixler, Emily (Isaac) Seevers, Jen (Jeff) Wahl, Carrie (Matt) Spohn, Erick (Kimberly) Reese, Anna (Brendon) Reiners, Kelsey (Nick) Hirsch, Nathan (Amy) Amstutz, Jonathan (Stacey) Amstutz, Sarah (Ben) Thiel, and Rebekah (Tyler) Braidic; and 44 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Ruth Moyer; husband, Lehr Jay; son, Ron Reese; son-in-law, Mike Inniger; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marjorie Moyer.

Evelyn impacted numerous lives through her service to others and was blessed by her grandchildren. A passionate educator, Evelyn taught Home Economics and English for 25 years at Ada, Cory-Rawson, and Pandora-Gilboa Schools. She was a devoted farmer's wife and mother. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Lehigh Acres, Florida, playing cards, and hosting family and friends.

Evelyn was actively engaged with her local church, Good Shepherd of Benton Ridge, Bluffton Senior Citizens, State and Putnam County Retired Teachers, Bluffton Shuffleboard Club, and various church groups. Her faith and joy in the Lord defined her character. She instilled family unity and emphasized the importance of following Jesus and cherishing each day.

Evelyn's services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, at Good Shepherd Church of Benton Ridge. The Rev. Richard Hiltibran will officiate. Burial will be at Clymer Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The service will be live streamed at www.focusonthecross.org.

The family expresses gratitude to Maple Crest and Putnam Company Hospice for their compassionate care of their mother.

Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Church of Benton Ridge or Maple Crest of Bluffton.

Mrs. Evelyn Reese was my Home Economics teacher when I attended Pandora-Gilboa High School. She was a warm, caring teacher with a heart of gold. I often thought of her. I learned a lot from her about sewing. May she Rest in Peace.

Jana Amstutz, My condolences to you and your family on of the passing of your mother. Evelyn was one the sweetest, spunkiest ladies I ever had the pleasure to meet. I enjoyed her every Sunday at Good Shepherd Church. We often talked about teaching Home Economics and how important of a class it was for kids to take. She was just the biggest personality in a tiny package, so I know where you got it! Once again, my deepest sympathy on Evelyn's passing. I miss seeing you doing pre-school physical education classes. Evelyn was an amazing friend and neighbor. Over the years I was gifted some delicious cinnamon rolls, cookies, candy, most of all friendship. She will be missed, but now she´s united with her loved ones. Much love and sympathy to Evelyn´s family and friends.
