Estella Lab Obituary

Estella Evelyn Lab

Estella Evelyn (Seguine) Lab, a lifetime resident of Findlay, passed away at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Birchaven Village. Estella was born November 26, 1922, to Clarence Howard Seguine and Violet Evelyn (Folk) [Seguine] Kwis. She was raised by her mother and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Folk. She married Eugene Gerard Lab Sr. of Carey on November 26, 1943, in Vallejo, California. They were married 61 years. They raised three children, Eugene Jr., Barbara, and Charles. Estella was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene G. Lab Sr.; her older son, Eugene G. Lab Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Bank) Lab.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elkin (Kenneth) of Galt, California; her son, Charles of Davenport, Florida; and her daughter-in-law, Dianna (McCall) Lab of Findlay; as well as five grandchildren, Jill (Zach) [Elkin] Matzek of Livonia New York, Daniel (Desiree) Elkin of Lewis Center, Deborah (Scott) [Elkin] Burrill of Sacramento, California, Stephanie Lab of Aurora, Illinois, and Ashley Lab of Lake Wales, Florida; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lab graduated from Findlay High School in 1940. In November of that year, she began working for Hancock County Selective Service Board No.1 and was assistant clerk of that Board until 1944, when she was made clerk. She worked for that Board until it was closed by the government in 1947 after WWII ended. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, an auxiliary member of the Findlay Chamber of Commerce, the Alpha Theta CCL, and the Order of Eastern Star. Genealogy was her passion, and Mrs. Lab belonged to Pioneers of Hancock County, First Families of Ohio, the United States Daughters of 1812, and the Hancock County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She and her husband traveled around the United States to connect with family members she discovered. She genuinely loved Findlay and its history and enjoyed sharing her old-time photos with friends, family and The Courier. She will be remembered and missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay. A funeral service will begin promptly at 11 a.m. remaining at the funeral home, with the Rev. Christian Dittmar and Vicar Jacinda Jones officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 1701 Tiffin Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840 and Ohio Genealogical Society, 611 State Route 97 W, Bellville, OH 44813.
