Edward E. Hotelling

Edward E. Hotelling, 84, of Carey passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.

Ed was born Nov. 22, 1940, in Carey to the late Melvin and Esther (Tanner) Hotelling. He married Nancy J. Bame on July 1, 1962, at Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey, where they were members for over 50 years. She preceded him in death Dec. 27, 2018.

Ed is survived by his three children, Kendra (Frank) Polito, Kirk (Brad Cochran) Hotelling, and Kraig (Yvette Apodaca) Hotelling; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane Schmitz.

Ed was a 1958 graduate of Carey High School and then attended Bowling Green State University, where he obtained his bachelor's and master's Degree in education. Ed began his teaching career at Hopewell-Loudon High School, then went to Carey High School and taught various subjects, including health, physical education and driver's education, before becoming assistant principal and athletic director. Ed retired in the late 1990s after over 30 years of teaching. However, Ed's real love and passion was coaching football for the Carey Blue Devils. Ed developed strong relationships with his fellow coaches, students and players, and even after retirement was always greeted as "Coach". In addition, he enjoyed fishing, traveling with his friends, woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at STOMBAUGH-BATTON & SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Carey. Ed's celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at Crawford Church, 11998 Twp Hwy 29, Carey, with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations for the Ed Hotelling Victory Bell Memorial Fund for the Carey High School football field c/o Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316.
