Edith Coleman Obituary

Edith Marie (Sims) Coleman

Edith Marie (Sims) Coleman, 88 of Findlay, passed away at home Tuesday, February 10, 2026. She was born at her family home in Round Grove Township, Indiana, to the late John "Tol" and Savage Roxie (Crabtree) Sims on January 6, 1938, according to her birth certificate, although her mother maintained it was actually on the 5th and for decades was celebrated as such.

Edith married her man, Richard G. Coleman, October 4, 1958. And the two were virtually inseparable for 62 years until Dick's passing on Edith's birthday in January of 2021. Ironically, she passed on what would have been Dick's 89th birthday. If you are speculating the odds of that occurrence, it's less than one in one hundred thousand of a chance.

Also preceding her in death are daughter, Sherri Marie (Coleman) Brunner, 2019; sisters, Peggy Sheehan, 2022 & Eva Smith, 2023.

Surviving are her children, Steven (Laura Hays) Coleman of Alto, Michigan, Becky (Larry) Bern of Montpelier, and John (Lisa) Coleman of Findlay; son-in-law, James Brunner Jr. of Fremont; 11 grandchildren, James (Angela) Brunner III, California; Erin Brunner, Fremont; Zachary Brunner, Findlay; Joshua Brunner (fiancée Jenny), Oregon; Corey (Kelley) Bern, Toledo; Logan Bern (fiancée Chloe), Columbus; Richard (Cheri) Coleman, Pennslyvania; Kelly (Trevor) Loula, Washington; Katelynn Coleman, Illinois; Ashley (Ryan) Bazzell, Beavercreek; and Kelsey Coleman, Bowling Greenan and six great-grandchildren, Conner, Elia, Jael, Liberty, Hannah, John Boaz, and Baby Bazzell.

Also surviving is sister, Helen Carter of Monticello, Indiana.

Edith was a 1956 Graduate of Brookston High School in Brookston, Indiana.

Edith was a breast cancer survivor for over 30 years. She enjoyed good old Rock & Roll, especially The King, Elvis, drives in her two convertibles, shopping, lots of shopping, collecting Precious Moments Figurines, accumulating and wearing lots of jewelry including earrings to literally match every outfit, Easter celebrations with dinners, gifts, games, prize tables, and tons of candy, extravagant Christmases with her family with gifts that she exhaustively toiled over every detail, and sharing stories about her family. She also enjoyed being on the water, either floating, boating, or fishing at their lake house in Monticello, Indiana, and the many winters spent in Sarasota, Florida. As a coach's wife, she spent countless hours at sporting events but seemed to enjoy her grandchildren's games most of all. Edith was always extremely competitive, having belonged to various card clubs in the day and always managed to eke out a win despite having "absolutely nothing" in her hand just moments before. She was a most excellent cook and served every dish with perfection.

At Edith's request, there will be no services and her remains will be placed beside those of her husband at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay.

Memorials may be made to her grandson's ministry (Pastor Corey Bern), Transformation Center, 4130 Lewis Ave Toledo, OH 43612 or online at https://www.tctoledo.org/support, offering hope, restoration, and sustenance with weekly free community meals and ministerial support.

Hanneman Funeral Home, Findlay, has been graciously entrusted with Edith's care.
