David A. Barchent

David A. Barchent, age 76, of Findlay, died at his residence at 5:14 am on Sunday, June 25, 2023. He was born on February 1, 1947, in Findlay, Ohio to the late Richard and Doris (Bright) Barchent. On December 23, 1966, David married Alice (Lovell), and they were later divorced. He married Karen Cramer on May 20, 2000, and she survives.

Also surviving are son, Brent Barchent of Upper Sandusky; daughter, Alisha (Barry) Cramer of Findlay; stepson, Jeremy Motter of Jenera; grandsons: Seth, Cole and Greyson Cramer; step grandsons: Randy Pierce and Ryan Lutz; sister, Debra (Mark) Manley of Findlay. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard "Dick" Barchent, sister, Julie Smith, and step daughter, Allison Lutz.

Dave served in the United States Army and a 1967-68 tour of duty in Vietnam. He worked as a mason for his uncle, Ed Kohli, in Pandora. He also worked for Cleary Interiors installing carpeting and hanging curtains. In 1970, Dave purchased his first sewing machine in Detroit, Michigan and opened Barchent Upholstery on Main Street in Bluffton, Ohio. In 1975, he opened Barchent Upholstery on East Sandusky Street in Findlay. In 1981 he began working for Hancock County Bureau of Support, and later as a probation officer in the Hancock County Adult Probation and later for the Findlay Municipal Court. In 1983, he attended the Police Academy and became a Special Deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. He enjoyed muscle cars, feeding peanuts to the Blue Jays, car restoration programs on TV and was the co-originator of the Toys That Shoot, which is the annual local air rifle show. He also loved to spend time with his family.

Visitation will be held at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, from 1-3 and 5-7 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Gregory officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home at the conclusion of the Memorial Service by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be given to Cancer Patient Services and online condolences may be sent to www.coldrencrates.com.

I worked with Dave years ago. He always had a way of putting some humor In the day, & a help if need be. Praying that the sadness in your hearts quickly be replaced with joyful memories that brings a smile.
