Dale Shelton Obituary

Dale Porter Shelton

Dale Porter Shelton, 90, of Findlay, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 5, 2025 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

He was born June 18, 1934, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to the late Porter and Alma (Hoffman) Shelton. He married Ethel (Taylor) Holliger and although they later divorced, they remained lifelong friends, taking care of each other until Ethel's passing in December, 2020.

As a young man, Dale moved his family to Sandusky and began his lifelong career working for Columbia Gas of Ohio. While in Sandusky, he spent many weekends on his wooden Lyman, where his love of fishing and boating flourished. A job transfer brought the family to Findlay, which Dale called home for over 60 years.

Dale was an avid small game sportsman, providing squirrel, rabbit, and pheasant for family meals. His love of shooting turned to trap and skeet in his later years. Dale was a member of the United Conservation and Outdoor Association and regular Saturday morning attendee at the local doughnut shop. He enjoyed spending time with his son Mark and wife Lisa, visiting area attractions and flying with his son Ken, fishing and visiting Middle Bass Island. Dale was proud of his sons and the lives they built for their families.

Dale is survived by his sons, Kenneth D. (Ann) Shelton and Mark A. (Lisa) Shelton; grandchildren, David (Claire) Shelton, Kendal (John) Shaffer, Michael Shelton, and Andrew Shelton; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Alana, and Haylee Shaffer, Jacob and Olivia Shelton, and Anikan Shelton; sister, Shirley Griffin; nephew, Dan Griffin; niece, Lisa King-Staugh and very close friend of countless years, Martha Myers.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, until the time of Dale's celebration of life at 12 p.m. at Hanneman Funeral Home, 201 Osborn Street, Findlay. Private internment will take place at a later time at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Huron.

Memorial contribut-ions may be given to City Mission, 510 West Main Cross, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Online condolences and memories may be shared at hanneman funeralhomes.com.

Dale was a good friend of my Father Dick Kramer. They went to the broken bird together. He helped my dad through his divorce and broken leg. My siblings and I referred to him as "uncle" Dale.
He was always kind and polite. Encouraged me in my shooting. He will now join my dad at the shooting range in heaven. He will be missed

To the Shelton family I am so sorry to see that Dale has passed. We had so much fun at work. He was always so good to me. He is a gentleman that made a difference in my life and I know in yours.

Your dad was a good guy! I am very sad that I haven´t spoken to him in several years since the last time I phoned him. Remember his name remember what he did for you and you´ll always be good!!
