Carolyn Allard Obituary

Carolyn A. Allard

Carolyn A. Allard, 88, of Lake City, Michigan, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 26, 2024.

She was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of William and Gladys McCoy. She was in Brentwood, New Hampshire.

Carolyn graduated from University of New Hampshire in 1957 with a Bachelor's degree in education. She taught for several years as an elementary school teacher before becoming a mother and choosing to stay at home to raise her children. She also did substitute teaching and worked in the office at the Arlington Elevator for many years. In 1991, Carolyn received her Master's degree from Bowling Green State University, where she was an Adult Student Advisor at The University of Findlay until she retired.

For Carolyn, teaching was a natural thing to do. She started a Blue Bird Club and Camp Fire Girls Club and was the leader of these groups. She was a softball coach. She and her husband, Leon, were both 4-H advisors of Lye Creek 4-H Club.

Carolyn was a volunteer and board member at CHOPIN Hall where she assisted underprivileged people. She was a lay reader in the Episcopal Church. Carolyn volunteered as a tutor for first graders in reading and math. She also traveled the world with her lifelong friend, Nancy Hobbs.

She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 66 years, Leon Allard; daughters, Debra McGarry and Karen (Dan) Baker; son, William Allard; brothers, Harold (Lois) McCoy, William (Cindy) McCoy, and Paul McCoy; grandchildren, Kylie (Blake) Garver and Dylan Allard; seven great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Amanda McGarry Taralla and Joshua McGarry.

Carolyn's memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 29777 Telegraph Road, #1651, Southfield, Michigan, 48034.

Special thanks and appreciation to everyone at Autumnwood of McBain and Munson Hospice for giving our wife and mother such extraordinary love and care.

The family is being served by Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City.
