Carol Litzenberg Obituary

Carol Joan Litzenberg

Carol Joan Litzenberg, 91, formerly of Findlay, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at VITAS Hospice in West Allis, Wisconsin.

Joan was born July 12, 1931, in Rawson, to the late Howard H. and Francis M. (Evans) Yawberg. She married Dick "Red" Litzenberg on Oct. 29, 1954, and he preceded her in death Nov. 13, 2018.

Joan is survived by two children, Dave (Cathy) Litzenberg of Waterville and Pam DeGlopper of New Berlin, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) DeGlopper, Chris (Rabbin) DeGlopper, and Andy (Melissa) DeGlopper, all of Wisconsin, Mike Litzenberg of Oregon, Greg Litzenberg of Tennessee, Kevin (Shireen Desai) Litzenberg of Kentucky, and Josh Litzenberg of Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren, Caden, Tayte, and Camila DeGlopper, Mason and Finley DeGlopper, Nicholas DeGlopper, and Aria Litzenberg.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Jr. and Harold Yawberg; daughter, Patricia, who was stillborn in 1957; and son-in-law, Dave DeGlopper.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of Findlay High School. After graduation, she worked at Garwood Industries and Cooper Tire & Rubber Company where she and Dick met. After taking a brief break to be a stay-at-home mother, she picked back up her career. She worked as treasurer of Hancock Federal Credit Union, Findlay, while hosting the business office in a back room of the family home. Later in her career, she moved to First National Bank of Findlay, where she worked up to the title of loan officer and continued with Fifth Third Bank when they were bought out by First National Bank. She was a long-time member of American Business Women's Association (ABWA) where she had many friends and became a mentor to some of the younger members.

Joan was a life-long member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Findlay, and long-time Church Circle member where she helped with funeral dinners. She attended the "Walk to Emmaus" and it had a profound impact on her faith life. A volunteer at the gift shop at Blanchard Valley Hospital, it was her goal to make at least one person smile every day.

Joan revolved her life around family and friends, attending school events, and life activities for her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed hosting holiday dinners and going to sporting events. Joan was known to sit at games with her fingers crossed for good luck. As the daughter of a coach and having both an older and younger brother, Joan grew up a tomboy and sports fan. She especially favored Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers which are the teams her family has supported for generations. Joan has been thrilled to see the progression of opportunities for girls to participate and compete in sports. She was just like her father and loved to tell jokes.

Visitation for friends and family will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay. Carol's funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky St., Findlay, and will be officiated by the Rev. Cathy Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Joan's name to Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary, 306 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, or Findlay Youth Baseball at findlaybaseball.org.

Dave and Cathy,
This is rather late but I just found out about Carol´s passing. Both of your parents were a light of joy in my world at St Andrew´s. Everyone loved them. I especially got to know them better when I would prepare the Wednesday community meals and your Dad would load the dish washer, and your Mom helped with serving the meal. Blessings and love to you all.

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your mother. She was so sweet and had the best sense of humor. I know my Dad always wanted to hear her latest joke. Lots of memories of playing pool at your house and of the many hot summer baseball games with our parents watching.

I was honored and blessed to work with Joan at FNB/5/3 Bank, at both the main office and the East Branch. She was delightful and kind, funny and honest. She had a talent for making me feel special and appreciated. I greatly admired her. You were fortunate to have her as a friend.
