Barbara DeRan Obituary

Barbara J. DeRan

Barbara Jean DeRan went to join her husband, parents, and many friends and relatives at the Lord's house on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

She was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Tiffin, to Henry F. and Dorothy M. (Snay) Eborg.

After graduating from Old Fort High School in 1956, she married Thomas B. DeRan on June 30, 1957, at Old Fort EUB Church. They were married for 53 years until he passed away Jan. 1, 2011.

They were the parents of four children, Tom of Chandler, Arizona, Vicki of Findlay, Ted of Athens, Tennessee, and Valerie, who is deceased.

When they were first married, Tom was in U.S. Navy and they lived in several different states and overseas. They settled in Sycamore where their children all graduated from Mohawk High School. They moved to Findlay in 1983 where Barbara was in the banking industry for over 30 years, starting as a teller and retiring as a mortgage loan originator. After retirement, she was a traveling notary for several years.

Barbara was active in the communities where they lived. She was a founding member of the Lioness Clubs in Sycamore and Upper Sandusky. She was a board member of Zonta Club of Findlay and John Hudson Center and member of Hancock Leadership Class of 1989. She had several leadership roles in her church as well.

Others left behind to cherish Barbara's memory are nine grandchildren, Michael (Greta), Tim (Noel) and Andrew DeRan, Michelle and Matthew (Ashley) Scherger, Rachael (Dustin) Anderson, and Erica, Danielle, and Shaun Hutchison; five great-grandchildren, Alexi, Tyler, Wyatt, Charlotte, and Jack. The grandchildren live in many different states, so she did not see them often, but kept up with them through social media. They were the light of her life.

Visitation for friends and family will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at Journey at Christ Church, 225 W. Bigelow Ave., Findlay. Barbara's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at the church with additional visitation from 10-11 a.m. Pastor Trevor Wright will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name can be made to American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org.

I was a classmate of Barb at Old Fort School. She was bright, talented and a class act. Se will be remembered for her community activities and her "take charge" character.
