Winfield A. Ziessler

Winfield A. Ziessler, 93, of rural Findlay, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at his residence.

He was born June 1, 1929, in Deshler, to the late Winfield S. and Helen (Beck) Ziessler. Winfield was a 1947 graduate of Arcadia High School and served his country proudly in U.S. Air Force from 1947-1950.

He married Carol Kuhn on July 29, 1953, and she survives along with four children, Brian Ziessler of Findlay, Christina (John) Butler of Mt. Cory, Scott (Sandra) Ziessler of Boise, Idaho, and Mary Jo (Mitch) Starner of Killbuck, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Betty) Ziessler and Owen (Kay) Ziessler, both of Bluffton; sisters, Virginia Shields of Curtis and Nancy (Gary) Stoody of Huntsville; sister-in-law, Jean Ziessler of Upper Sandusky; and brother-in-law, John Hanna.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Sherri Ziessler; sister, Janet Hanna; brother, Carl Ziessler; and brothers-in-law, Walter Shields and Raymond Kuhn.

Winfield worked at Roy Dimmer garage until 1953 when he began his career at U.S. Post Office, where he served as clerk until 1972. He then became Post Master in New Riegel before retiring from Arcadia Post Office in 1987. He played in VFW band from his senior year in high school until 1970. Winfield enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake on his boat. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking them on tractor rides. He could be found in the morning, sitting at the back door of the garage with a cup of coffee watching his birds or spending time with his family, enjoying a bonfire. He also loved his annual trip to the Pennsylvania hunting cabin with his brothers.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at the funeral home. Winfield's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Green officiating. Private family burial will take place later at Knollcrest Gardens.
