Velma Stearns Obituary

Velma M. Stearns

Velma M. Stearns, 89, of Findlay, and formerly of Bloomdale, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at Taylor Place Senior Living in Findlay.

She was born July 23, 1934, in Seneca County, to Roy and Pearl (Stuckey) Myers. She married Gene L. Stearns on Nov. 7, 1954, in Fostoria, and they were married 55 years before he passed away Oct. 25, 2010.

Velma is survived by her children, Susan (Mike) Frisch of Fostoria, Linda (Dennis) Meek of Bloomdale, and Kenneth (Jane) Stearns of Bloomdale; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Pearl; husband, Gene; brother, Richard Myers; and sister, Mildred Castret.

Velma was a 1952 graduate of Fostoria High School. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church. In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, she worked many hours with her husband, Gene, taking care of the family farm. She enjoyed doing many kinds of crafts and loved feeding and watching the birds.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, until the time of Velma's celebration of life service at 11:30 a.m. at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne. Pastor Keith Norwalk will officiate. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery near West Millgrove.

Memorial donations may be made to Bridge Hospice, Wayne Public Library, or The Gideons.
