Sue Sandusky Obituary

Remembering my TCU classmate Sue Ann today, Memorial Day. I continue to feel humbled in the shadow of her many prolific, patriotic accomplishments.

So sad to read of Sue Ann's passing. I was a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC in the late '70s and early '80s where I first met Sue Ann. She was the JJC Rifle Team Coach while she was attending Columbia University for her Ph.D, and also a U.S. Army officer. She taught us how to shoot .22 caliber match rifles standing, kneeling, and prone at the college, and we used to practice at an armory on 7th Avenue in Brooklyn, NY (where I'm from). She pushed pretty hard on "mind stuff" -- visualization -- to become a better shooter. She had us read this book on visualization which she said had nothing to do with match rifle shooting/competition, but everything to do with visualization techniques and applying it to shooting. Don't remember the name of the book, but I still wish I had it. When the team once went to a competition at West Point; she ended up competing, and just watching her was amazing. Her eyes gave it away: so focused and serious, almost bulging out of her head, and in the "zone"; her whole countenance and demeanor were a sight to behold for a late teen/early 20s individual. We lost a great person and patriot, and I wish any of her existing family a happy and healthy life.

There are people one meets in life that make a real positive impression. Col. Sandusky was one of these people. We did not know her well, but we met her several times in Liberia. She went out of her way to help us--as she likely did to many, many people. She was friendly, well-informed, and someone who was easy to meet and talk to. She made a positive impression on those of us in Liberia and on the Liberian people in general. We are saddened by her passing and send our condolences to all who knew and loved her. Good journey to a TCU friend, you were a kind person.

Madam Sue's help my family in Africa/Liberia to be preside. She even help me pay my graduation from 2014 from High school.
Since then we been in good communications with her until I lost my dad too,I last spoke with her on the phone in June and I pray alongside with her for a speedy recovery.

I´m Sue´s neighbor for the past 10 years. We´re the same age and our military careers were parallel but mine in the Air Force. When she was able, we shared war stories as old vets do. Vaya con Dios Colonel.

Sue Ann was a legendary Defense Attache. I visited her several times at her various assignments in Africa. She was an outstanding professional with a great personality.

Her brother Tim was my best friend growing up. I was often around Sue and their parents. All were wonderful caring people. Many fond memories.

It amazed me how kind and thoughtful Sue Ann Sandusky was during her time at the DLI - Presidio in Monterey. As a matter of fact, she gifted me, quite surprisingly, as she was preparing her departure, with a most thoughtful and amazing surprise souvenir from her travels in Africa. To this day, it still sits in my home with distinction. God Bless her and may she rest in PEACE. She left her mark (a fine one) with many folks. Joanne Garden
11/6/2024 Sue Ann was a fellow Church attendee.

Sorry to hear about her passing away. She was a nice lady and regularly attended the Sunday Mass at DLIFLC, Monterey. Here are two photos I took of her with fellowship friends after the Mass.

I remember the wonderful stories that she would share with us at DLI-Washington when she would visit. She loved to get in our heated van whenever I had to take her to her many meetings to the Pentagon or on The Hill. It was never too hot for her! You had such a kind heart and will truly be missed. It was a pleasure having you as our Commandant!

A legendary soldier and diplomat. Sue Ann set the standard that the rest of us Africa FAOs tried to live up to. Que la terre lui soit légère.

What a privilege to have known Sue from High school days. She brought peace and good will through her military service around the world. In semi-retirement her teaching of poli-sci at Tiffin Univ. was so important to students. She brought much joy to my aging mother, Claire Davis, with her frequent visits. Love you, Sue. our sympathies to Tim, Cher, and friends and family.
