Shirley Jean Garcia

Shirley Jean Garcia 80, left the bonds of this earth to join her Heavenly Father in Heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.

She was born March 29, 1943, in Bowling Green, Ohio, to Roy and Betty (Palmer) Phillis. She married her high school sweetheart, Luis Garcia, on Oct. 1, 1960, at St. Michael the Arch Angel Catholic Church, and he survives. Shirley is a member of St. Pius Catholic church. Shirley retired from J.C. Penny Co. after a long career, serving as department manager, buyer, and store manager. She was an avid skier, bowler, swimmer, and golfer, but most of all, she was a great mom, grandma, nana, and great-grandma.

She is survived by four children, Elizabeth Miller (Harry), Theresa Bailey (Tim), Rebecca Kruse (Bernie), and Michael (Annie) Garcia; eight grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Mathew, Adam, Alex, Ian, Jenna, and Lauren; and eight great-grandchildren who all loved her very much.

Many thanks to Ohio State University Ross Heart hospital and all the doctors and nurses for the wonderful care she received there for the past six years.

Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Pataskala, Ohio, 43062. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, at St. Pius X Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Rd., Reynoldsburg, Ohio, 43068.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to American Heart Association.
