Ruth I. Walton
Ruth Ilene (Chatelain) Walton, 87, of Findlay, died peacefully Monday, July 17, 2023, at her residence.
Ruth was born July 2, 1936, in Findlay, to Harry and Florence (Walters) Chatelain. She married K. Richard Walton on May 24, 1958, and he preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1998.
She was a 1954 graduate of Findlay High School and in her younger years, was employed at Ohio Oil Company (now Marathon Oil Company) as a secretary and also worked as a cook at St. Catherine's Nursing Home.
Ruth is survived by four children, Julie Munn of Findlay, Beckie Arter of Fremont, Doug (Robin) Walton of Jerry City, and Steve (Andrea) Walton of Bloomdale; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Robert Walton; brothers, Ned and Tom Chatelain; sons-in-law, Steve Munn and Doug Arter; granddaughter, Amanda (Wittenmyer) Burrell; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Ruth was a life member of First United Church of Christ where she had many offices and served on many committees, as well as a member of a CCL group and Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Ruth had many interests including camping, swimming, boating, crossword puzzles, and reading.
Family always came first to Ruth. While raising their children in Fostoria, she was involved in all her children's and grandchildren's activities and sports events and Scouts. She also served as PTA president, etc. She especially enjoyed annual Stew Day in the fall at her son Doug's house.
As Ruth's wishes were to be cremated, a memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at First United Church of Christ, 2100 Greendale Avenue, Findlay, with the Rev. Eric Rummel officiating. Fellowship will follow afterwards.
Burial will be private at Maple Grove Cemetery with family present.
