Roger Lessig Obituary

Roger Neil Lessig

Roger Neil Lessig, 92, of Vanlue, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family early Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

He was born June 29, 1930, to Lloyd Earl and Violetta (Patterson) Lessig. He married Nancy J. Roberts on Sept. 9, 1952, and they spent 64 years of marriage together until Nancy's death in 2015.

Following high school, Roger joined U.S. Army, seeing active duty in the Korean War. After his service, Roger would spend his career working in the window industry as a glazier for Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Bendix Autolite.

Roger was a life-long member of East Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Findlay. In his free time, Roger loved to hunt for arrowheads and morel mushrooms, gardening (especially planting trees), flipping houses with his wife and children, and attending his many grandchildren's sporting events. He was also an accomplished woodworker, making all kinds of toys and crafts. In his younger days, Roger and Nancy loved to travel, especially to Hawaii and Jamaica. Roger never missed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy each evening with his wife, and then children, usually winning!

Roger is survived by his children, Jennifer (Al) Stansbery, Beverly Macke, Tony (Coleen) Lessig, Cindy (Jon) Hagerty, Gina (Tim) Vaughn, and Teresa (Keith) Thomas; his favorite seventh child, his beloved dachshund, "The "Duchess" of Vanlue"; brothers, Jim (Sally) Lessig and Bob (Julia) Lessig; sisters, Verna (Jack) Ogg and Marilyn (David and James) Searson; 19 grandchildren he was the proud grandfather to; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard (Virginia) Lessig; sister-in-law, Sally; and brothers-in-law, Jack, David Smith, and James Searson.

Roger sadly passed away due to complications of COVID. His family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay, and Bluffton Regional Medical Center Swing Bed unit for their dedicated and loving care of their father.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2023, at COLDREN CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at East Zion Methodist Church, Findlay. Roger's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Bright Cemetery. Full military rites will be performed by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
