Robert Maas Obituary

Robert D. "Bob" Maas

Robert D. "Bob" Maas, 88, of Findlay, passed away peacefully at 8:52 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Bob was born March 14, 1936, in Kentucky, to Cecil and Ruth E. (Wiggins) Maas, and grew up in Deshler.

He married Ruth Vandersall on March 8, 1957, at McComb Church of Christ, and she survives.

Bob is also survived by his son, Mark A. (Noreen) Maas of Findlay; four grandchildren, Justin C. (Jacey) Maas, Clayton E. (Leah) Maas, Christy A. (Matthew) Cramner of Findlay, and Heather M. (Jamey) Gorman of Knoxville, Tennessee; 12 great-grandchildren, and special daughter-in-law, Cindy Hauenstein.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, R. Dan Maas in 2001; and brother, Homer "Til" Maas.

Bob served his country in U.S. Army, stationed in Panama in 1950s. When he returned home, Bob started with Findlay Sundry Sales, which he operated for 25 years. Then, he and his wife, Ruth, founded Things 'n Pills, a beloved Hallmark gift store. Bob later became involved in commercial real estate with CB Richard Ellis until his retirement.

Bob was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, was active in the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved The Ohio State Buckeyes so much that he was known to friends as "Buckeye Bob."

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, until the time of Bob's funeral at 3 p.m. at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Rob Breitigam, a friend of the family, will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, Portage Township, Hancock County, with military rites by Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of Bridge Hospice (Tiffany, Ashley, Dr. Jacobus, Marsha, Ginny, Brook, Paige, and Tomas) for their excellent care. Also, thank you to Wendy Schworm at Blanchard Valley Medical Associates for her years of medical care for Bob.

Memorials in Bob's name are suggested to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, or White Fields Overseas Evangelism, PO Box 1089, Joplin, Missouri, 64802-1089.
