Robert Kohl Obituary

Robert C. Kohl

Robert C. Kohl, 94, of Perrysburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, after visiting his beloved wife at Birchaven Village in Findlay and bringing her chocolates. On Aug. 24, 1930, Bob was born to Howard and Anna Mae (Voland) Kohl in their Perrysburg home, where he was raised on the family farm. Bob attended Perrysburg High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served as a Sergeant in the Korean War.

In 1955, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Cepko, and they continued the farming legacy. He continued to farm up to a few weeks ago even though it was a challenge at age 94. He had an extensive garden with a variety of vegetables and squash and actually won first place for the largest pumpkin contest with the Toledo Blade. Being a hardworking, highly motivated man, Bob also worked 42 years full time at Brush Wellman (Materion) as a plant manager of the Beryllium Metals Department, originally in Luckey, then moved to the Elmore location. There he was known as 'quiet but mighty' and earned the respect of those who worked for him and those he worked for. He never shied away from rolling up his sleeves to fix a problem and had an incredible knack for diagnosing a problem to correct it. He was a fabulous square dancer and loved going to dances and listening to country and polka bands. He also enjoyed playing golf, watching sports and was a great card player. Bob loved fishing and traveling with the family in their 16-foot travel trailer to all of the continuous states, Canada and Mexico. He especially loved wintering at their slice of heaven in Pines Trailer Park in Bradenton Beach, FL.

Bob was president of the former Perrysburg Grain Elevator, now Luckey Farmers, for several years. He attended St. Rose Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of American Legion 338 as well as a lifelong member of VFW 1148. He was a Moose member at 2188 and enjoyed the beach with friends and family. He had a strong attachment to history which dated back to his descendants on the Mayflower. A great source of information, he could tell you where people and businesses once were located.

Bob had a dry sense of humor that revealed his true intelligence, wit, and impeccable timing. Usually diffusing a tense moment. He had a loyal sense of family, a firm sense of right and wrong, a rock of dependability and a quiet disposition. An unassuming man that was once described as 'strong like bull'. He faithfully and proudly attended his grandchildren's various sporting events from soccer, baseball, horseback riding to figure skating as well as other honor events.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 69 years, Mary Ann Kohl; children, Jeffrey Kohl and Debbie (Dr. Bruce) Bouts; grandchildren, Kristin Kohl, Brian Kohl, Alexa (Nate) Bouts Sell and Keith Kohl Bouts; brother, John Kohl; many nieces and nephews; and countless extended family members and friends.

His siblings, Dale Kohl and Alice (Kohl) Brown preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

His Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at St. Rose.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Flag City Honor Flight Inc., P.O. Box 885, Findlay, OH 45839.

I was fresh out of engineering school in mid-1982 when I was hired by Brush Wellman and worked on a production team with Bob (and his shift foremen Mick Scheerer, Joe Kramp, and Les Ford) in the Pebbles and Oxide area at the Elmore plant. Bob was one of the most respected General Foreman at the company, a fantastic and steady leader, and had the highest ethical standards in a department that had hazardous processes. He never asked anyone to do anything he wouldn't do himself, which has been my standard throughout my management career ...........largely due to him. I've thought about Bob many times over my career, and still keep a copy of his mother's book that he gave me (It happened on Five Point Road) on my book shelf at home.
