Rick Hatfield Obituary

Rick Alan Hatfield

Rick Alan Hatfield, 65, formerly of Findlay, peacefully passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Rick was born Aug. 16, 1957, in Toledo, the son of Charles and Patricia Hatfield, who preceded him in death. He was a brother to Jill (Greg) Christian and Kelly (Jim) Canales.

He is survived by his former wife, Debbie; their son, Chaz (Yvonne) Hatfield; their daughter, Lindy (Matt) Zinser; and three grandchildren, all living in the Fort Myers area.

Rick was a graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio, and received his bachelor's degree from The University of Findlay where he was named a two-time All-American football player and also lettered in basketball and baseball. He was an extremely talented athlete, even briefly making a career as a professional athlete.

Rick was a retired teacher and coach and had a true passion for mentoring others through sports. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Rick's committal service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2023, at Saint Ignatius Catholic Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, Ohio.

Very sorry to hear of Rick's passing, I remember him as a great athlete but also as a great person. Had fun as a kid playing basketball at his mom and dad's house on Burger Street. Prayers to his family.

We are all saddened to hear of Rick's passing. Rick was a great athlete, coach and mentor. He was a very proud father. His greatest legacy is the two amazing children he has in Chaz and Lindy. We love you all.

My condolences to the entire Hatfield family. Rick and I went to Grade School and High School together. Lots of memories. Sad to hear of his passing. Wish I had known he was in Ft. Myers as I am living in Sanibel. Would´ve loved to talk about the good old days.
Rest in Peace.

I was saddened to read of Rick's death, and his family has my condolences. We spent a lot of time together when in grade school from fishing, delivering Sunday morning newspapers in the middle of the night, playing sports of all kinds, usually on the same team, but not always. I spent one year as his batterymate when he pitched for the 49ers. We may have been the poorest team in the league with only shirts and hats as uniforms, but we had the best pitcher. Rick had amazing control and one heck of a fast ball. He typically threw a no hitter or something darn close. He was a tremendous hitter and shortstop too.

May he rest in peace,

WOW! Jill and Kelly, I am just stunned by Rick's death. I think of him often and never knew he became a teacher. It sounds like that good heart of his made a difference in the world and that is so nice to hear. Know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope some nice memories are flashing before your eyes to put a little smile on your heart and to help ease your pain. love, Dave
