Richard Smith Obituary
Richard D. Smith, of rural Hanock County, went home to his Lord and Savior Monday, March 16, 2026.
Richard was born May 30, 1938, in Taylor County, Iowa, to Fred V. and Arella O. (Garten) Smith. He grew up in southern Iowa and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis McMullen, in January 1957. To this union, three sons were born.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Smith of rural Hancock County; sons, Rick (Alya) Smith of Luthersville, Georgia, Steve (Carmen) Smith of Findlay, Mike Smith of Springfield, Illinois; sisters, Charlene Ingram of Grinnell, Iowa, Della Calhoun of Clarinda, Iowa, and Cindy Nardini of Whitehouse Tennessee; grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Smith Bailey of Findlay, Derek (Lauren) Smith of Findlay, Justin Smith of Champaign, Illinois, Emily Smith of Springfield, Illinois, and Trey Brown-Sanchez of Springfield, Illinois.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Arella Smith; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
He had a lengthy career in aviation, starting at Kent State University, where he taught flying, and ending at Eastern Airlines as a pilot. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his family and friends and Bible Fellowship Church.
There will be no funeral at this time. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 2-4:30 p.m. at Bible Fellowship Church, 11906 W. Fellowship Dr., Arlington, OH 45814.
HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd., Findlay, (419-422-1500), is honored to serve Richard's family.
Memorial contribu-tions in Richard's name may be made to Women's Rescue Center of Hancock County, 1011 N. Main St., Findlay, OH 45840.

My Uncle... Richard Dean Smith, I had only one uncle , I loved his laugh, and his conversation to spark thought. I am so thankful for my uncle, he was life, and if given the chance to choose, I couldn´t have chosen a better uncle. He was reassuring in situations where truth didn´t go unsaid, no matter how it was received because that was who he was. He holds a special place in my heart. I am so thankful for the time together at recent family gatherings. Beautiful memories to treasure.
