Richard Philipps Obituary

Richard C. Philipps

Richard C. Philipps, 85, of Findlay, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023.

He was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Barberton.

Richard is survived his children, Christina (Ron Haynes) Radabaugh and Brian (Beth) Philipps; grandchildren, Wesley, Josh, Tyler, Emma Beth, Jack, Adam, and Cory; and stepchildren, Chris (Jeanna) Kolhoff and Jeff (Julie) Kolhoff, and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vincentia (Mahoney) Philipps; sister, Roberta Bond; first wife of 27 years, Helen (Karcher); and second wife of 30 years, Cheryl (VanVoorhis).

After high school, Richard enlisted in U.S. Navy as a First Class Petty Officer and was always proud to say he was just a young, dumb, happy boy from Findlay who traveled the world twice. After the Navy, Richard received his degree from Davis Business College as an electrician and subsequently worked for Cooper Tire for 30 years, where he was affectionately called "Dick." Richard was a lifetime parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Findlay - serving God in many capacities including being a member of Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of Findlay AmVets.

Richard was always quick with a joke and laugh. He enjoyed his retirement playing golf, many vacations, playing euchre with the guys, and wrestling with his grandchildren who he was so proud of.

We want to say thank you to his caregivers at The Manor at Greendale and Southern Care Hospice helping him through the end of his journey and being so ornery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Downtown Chapel, 217 W. Main Cross, Findlay.

Contributions in Richard's memory may be shared with Findlay AmVets Post 21, 423 W. Trenton Ave., Findlay, Ohio, 45840, or Southern Care Hospice, 6545 Central Ave. #103, Toledo, Ohio, 43617.
