R. Mathewson Obituary
R. Kent Mathewson, 86, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
Kent was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Allen County, to Byrl and Ethel (Reddick) Mathewson. He married Mary Moe Mathewson on June 30, 1957, and she survives.
Kent graduated from Cory-Rawson High School. He worked at Triplett Corporation and retired from Ford Motor Company. Following retirement, he worked at Hanson-Neely Funeral Homes in Ada/Alger for 25 years. Kent was a member of County Line Church and Valley of Toledo Masonic Lodge as a 33rd degree Mason. He loved time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Kent is survived by his wife, Mary Mathewson of Bluffton; son, Robert (Cherie) Mathewson of Delphos; daughter-in-law, Kim Mathewson of Marysville; two grandchildren, Krista Mathewson of Marysville and Tanner (Danielle) Mathewson of Lima; two great-grandsons, Jayden and Silas Mitchell; great-granddaughter, Knoxley Mathewson; sister-in-law, Karen Epley of Ada; brother-in-law, George Deringer of Worthington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael and John Mathewson; grandson, Jason Mathewson; and siblings, Robert J. (LaDonna) Mathewson and Marilyn Deringer.
As per Kent's wishes, a private memorial service will take place.
