Philip A. Howard

Philip A. Howard, 74, of Findlay, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday afternoon, December 28, 2025. Born in Findlay, July 20, 1951, he was the son of the late Marion and Mildred (Elder) Howard. On January 21, 1983, Phil married the love of his life, Marilyn Goerke, and together they shared more than four decades of love, laughter, and devotion.

Phil will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Elliott (Audrey) Tyzzer and Thurston Howard; and his daughters, Dr. Alexandra Tyzzer (Blain) Patrick and Muriel (Chase) Pickering. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Everett, Isla, Maddi, Tobie, Addelynn, Brayden, and Nolan. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Sickinger, Polly (Terry) Howard-Nyenhuis, Pamela (Bill) Cashman, and Phoebe Byrd.

Phil was preceded in death by his brother, Perry Howard, and his sister, Penny Jagmin.

After high school, Phil served honorably for four years in the Air Force. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of dedicated service to the City of Findlay and then spent the next four years working at the University of Findlay. He found joy in sharing the simple pleasures of country life, giving hay rides and pressing fresh apples into cider for family and friends to enjoy. Phil volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader and youth soccer coach. A resourceful and creative man, Phil found joy in the outdoors. Whether gardening, fishing, or mowing the lawn, he approached everything he did with care, diligence, and attention to detail.

One of Phil's greatest daily joys was playing Scrabble with Marilyn, a tradition that reflected their close bond. Phil was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, a proud Mason, and a devoted grandfather who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandson, Tobie, at soccer games.

Visitation will be at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay Friday from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9-10 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. Saturday, officiated by Mike Stone. Burial will take place at Knollcrest Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Parks Foundation Tree Planting Fund in Phil's memory.
