Nicole Elizabeth Powell
Nicole Elizabeth Powell, 38, of Findlay, went with Jesus to her heavenly home surrounded by her family Friday March 24, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center.
Nicole was born Dec. 14, 1984, to Steven and Sheryl (Briggs) Powell.
Nicole is survived by her mother; sister, Cynthia (Mark) Bartolomeo of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Marcus (Leslie) Powell of Findlay; niece, Zoe Powell of Findlay; nephew, Landon Powell of Findlay; aunt, Karis (Jim) Woodward of Findlay; and uncle, Dale (Sue) Briggs of Findlay.
Nicole was preceded in death by her father, Steven Powell; and grandparents, Harry and Phoebe Powell, Robert and Florence (Kagy) Briggs, and Grandma Norma.
Nicole was part of Blanchard Valley Center School and residential community since she was eight years old. She loved her friends and staff who worked there. She participated in their sign choir and ice skating program "SABA" the first year it came to Findlay. She worked at Kan-Du Plus until COVID hit the community. Nicole was a social butterfly and joy to all who knew her. She was so full of love and she spread that love through her smile.
Nicole was a Special Olympics athlete, competing in swimming, bowling, and power walking. She won many gold, silver, and bronze medals and trophies from her events. She was also a cheerleader for the basketball team. Nicole had a board position on AKtion Club and was an ambassador for Findlay Chamber of Commerce representing the DD Community, attending many ribbon cutting ceremonies around town. She was also involved in a program called "Speak Out" that served her well during her future hospital stays and treatments.
Nicole loved creating art and her works were proudly displayed in her family's homes as well as other public spaces. This love got her through many hard hospital stays. She especially loved the art and music therapy program at Cleveland Clinic. She also loved flowers, country music, Amish country visits, watching "The Price is Right," and all of her stuffed animals gifted to her from family and friends.
Nicole's grace in handling her battle with cancer was noted as "amazing" by the many doctors and nurses at Cleveland Clinic and Blanchard Valley Health System. She was always given praise as one of the bravest and kindest patients they had ever met. We, her family, wish to thank the many doctors, nurses, and staff who were involved with her care and treatments. We especially would like to thank the hospice staff at Birchaven and BV Hospital for keeping Nicole comfortable in her final days.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay. Nicole's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Dan Young officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay.
