Myron Kauffman Obituary

Myron "Bud" Kauffman

Myron "Bud" Kauffman, 81, of Van Buren, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Wood County Hospital in the Bridge Home Health and Hospice wing.

Bud was born Sept. 12, 1941, to Myron and Mildred (Peterson) Kauffman of Fostoria. He married Mary Burrell of Van Buren on April 12, 1985.

Bud is survived by his wife, Mary Kauffman; brother, William (Jan) Kauffman of Defiance; sister-in-law, Elva (Gene) Kirian of Bowling Green; brother-in-law, John (Glori) Burrell of Lawrenceville, Georgia; children, Tony Kauffman of Van Buren, Jo Lynn (Jim) Sharrett of Carey, and Bradley (Sandi) Junge of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren, Jackie Smith, Tammy (Lee) Brodman, Ashley (Ryan) McKinnon, Todd (Shannon) Thomas, Chad (Kailynn) Junge, and Megan (Kyle) Donaldson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A 1959 Fostoria High School graduate, from a young age, Bud exhibited a strong sense of patriotism and desire to serve those around him when he enlisted for three years in U.S. Army where he served at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Aberdeen, Maryland; and Wiesbaden, Germany. Following his time in uniform, he went on to hold a long tenure at Columbus Gas of Ohio where he worked for 36 years and 14 years at Feller, Finch and Associates as a field technician. Bud's selfless commitment to his country and community is measured not in years, but in decades as Bud served Allen Township as a volunteer firefighter for 31 years and Village of Van Buren as Clerk-Treasurer for 40 years. Bud also maintained a lifetime membership of over 50 years at American Legion Post 539 of North Baltimore and maintained his involvement in Van Buren United Methodist Church.

When Bud wasn't working or with his family, he could be found spending time on his two other passions, golfing and caring for animals. Bud, an avid golfer, shared this love with a number of his grandchildren and earned himself two holes-in-one during his lifetime. Bud's love for cats was immeasurable as demonstrated by his creation of an insulated heated cat house for the neighborhood cats, ensuring their warmth and safety during the winter months. He even went the extra mile by purchasing two heated cat houses for his own beloved cats, ensuring their comfort and happiness within the confines of his home.

A brother, husband, father, and grandfather, Bud was a beloved member of the Van Buren community and leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, and a quiet compassion that will be missed dearly.

The family of Bud Kauffman would also like to extend a special appreciation to the Bridge Hospice Team that provided kind and compassionate care to our Budman over the past year.

Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Bud's funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home Pastor Kelly Sterling officiating. Graveside services will follow at Bechtel Cemetery, Van Buren, where members of North Baltimore American Legion Post 539 will accord military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to any of the following in Bud's honor: Allen Township Fire Department, Bridge Home Health and Hospice, Hancock County Humane Society, Van Buren United Methodist church, or charity of the donor's choice.

My condolences to Mary and the family, he was a great asset and friend to me. I couldn't have made it without his knowledge and wisdom and kindness all the years I lived in VB and served on town council. Van Buren has lost a great man, and may he be at peace.
