He was born in Findlay to James O. and Della E. (Lessig) on June 10, 1940.

Michael graduated from Liberty-Benton High School, where he was active in FFA and football, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France during the Vietnam War. Michael married Sharon I. Conrad, who survives, along with their three children.

He dedicated over 25 years of service as a Rawson volunteer firefighter and chief.

A farmer at heart, Michael enjoyed making things in his woodworking shop. He loved taking many trips to his favorite place in Minnesota and spending time with the coffee clan at the local cafe.
