Mary Swain Obituary
Mary L. Swain, 91, of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at UnityPoint Health in Rock Island, Iowa.
Mary Lou Ohler was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Wayne, the daughter of Rolla J. and Mabel (Karns) Ohler. She was united in marriage to Billie J. Swain on Oct. 12, 1957, in Dillon, South Carolina. She was formerly employed by Western Union in Ohio, Bowling Green Sentinel Tribune, Pax Distributing Co. in Milan, Illinois, Hancock County Treasurer's office, and Ohio State Highway Patrol in Findlay. Mary served as first president of Hancock County Genealogical Society in Findlay, was a past treasurer of Public Employee Inc. in Findlay, and was a former member of Wayne Garden Club.
Mary enjoyed singing with Hancock Harmonizers in Findlay and also sang with Sweet Adelines Pearl City Chapter of Muscatine. She was a former volunteer with Bridge Home Health and Hospice in Findlay and for Unity Hospice in Muscatine. Mary was a member of Church of Christ in Muscatine.
Mary will be deeply missed by her daughter, Rose (Terry) Morris of Illinois City, Illinois; brother, Glen (Patricia) Ohler of Wayne; grandson, Brett (Lindsey) Morris of Farley; great-grandson, Everhett Mitchell Morris; stepgrandson, Joshua (Mimi) Morris; stepgreat-granddaughter, Dawson Morris; stepgranddaughter, Mandie (Eric) Stouffer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Anna Davies and Elsie McCoy; brother, William (Audrey) Ohler; niece, Jan Ohler; and nephew, Gary Ohler.
Mary's graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at Graham Cemetery, Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the Church of Christ in memory of Mary.
