Mary Crawford Obituary

Mary Jane Crawford

Mary Jane Crawford, beloved wife, loving mom, and grandma of Vanlue, passed into God's Kingdom on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at Birchaven Village in Findlay. She was 90.

Mary Jane was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Hancock County, to David and Lucille (LaRoche) Sherrick. She married the love of her life, Ronald "Sam" Crawford, on March 3, 1957, and he preceded her in death July 30, 2017, after 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Mary Jane is survived by her loving children, Jeff (Karen) Crawford, Ron (Robin) Crawford, Denise (Larry) Blair, and Ryan (Jen) Crawford; grandchildren whom she adored, Aaron (Shelly) Crawford, Brook (Alaina) Crawford, Quinn (Whitney) Crawford, Cody (Dez) Crawford, Jillian (Colin) Maurer, Jordan (Mitch) Cavanaugh, Melissa Blair, Brian (Alicia) Blair, Justin Blair, Ashley Wright, Samantha (Chad) Eilrich, Hillary (Jaden) Overholt, Zach Crawford, Sam Crawford, and Chloe Crawford; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Bibler.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Crawford; and siblings, Thomas, Richard, Robert, and David Sherrick.

Mary Jane was a 1951 graduate of Vanlue High School. She shared her joy of cooking and fellowship through service to the Vanlue community in the school cafeteria for over 25 years. Her homemade abilities was a treasure of all her students. Before working in the cafeteria, "MJ" and her husband, Sam, owned and operated the Vanlue IGA grocery store, where many friendships and customers counted on them. During hard times in the '60s, many customers were graced with their generosity of "running a tab" or even necessities "on the house." Their faith through Vanlue Christ United Methodist Church and their married life engrained them that way of Christianity of "Love thy neighbor as family." She was very active in funeral meals as well as being a Sunday school teacher. Mary Jane was also very active in the Vanlue Band and Athletic boosters, as well as the Vanlue Homecoming festivities. Mary Jane also enjoyed being a part of her pinochle card club.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, until the time of Mary Jane's celebration of life service at 11 a.m. at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will follow at Zion Bloom Cemetery.

I worked for Sam and Mary at the IGA store while I was in high school and enjoyed every minute of it. I also baby sat the older boys and was working at the hospital when the youngest one was born. I worked the maternity floor.
Mary Jane and Sam were both great people. I visited Mary Jane a few weeks ago and realized her grandson Brook works with one of my doctors; small world. I like Brook too; he definitely belongs in that great family. What good memories I have. Sorry to see are friends and family move on, but we have hope of seeing them again and reliving all the good times. Thinking of you,
