Mary Alice Carpenter

Mary Alice (Noel) Carpenter, 96, passed away early Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, under hospice care at Brookdale Senior Living, Findlay.

Born on the family farm in Hancock County to Wilbur Noel and Edith (Nowlan) Noel, she was the eldest of six children (deceased brother William and deceased sisters Virginia and Patricia, surviving sisters Carol and Sharon).

After graduating from Arcadia High School at the close of World War II, Mary did secretarial work at what is now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Mary married Wayne Carpenter on March 8, 1946, and he died just a few months short of their 70th wedding anniversary in late 2015. While Mary enjoyed reading, crocheting, and needlepoint, family was everything to her, and in later years she became avidly interested in acquiring records on and stories about her ancestors, as well as on contemporaries and descendants.

She and Wayne raised eight children, Susan Price (Derek, deceased) of Topsham, Maine, Ruth Butler (David) of Sedona, Arizona, Cheryl Treece (Mike) of West Chester, Linda Austin of Indio, California, Karen Emter (Bruce) of Arlington, John Carpenter of Australia, Douglas Carpenter (Eleanor) of Falls Church, Virginia, and Jim Carpenter (Brigette) of Findlay. In turn, she welcomed 14 grandchildren, Shane Waddell (Anni) of Davis, California, Andy Treece (Sarah) of Monroe, Shiloh Neal (Lucian) of Reading, Alex Butler (Ann) of Benicia, California, Cheri Moro (Joe) of Findlay, Michael Dietelbach of Tampa, Florida, Tom Butler (Stephanie) of Santa Ana, California, Nichole Joyce (Bill) of Edgecomb, Maine, Julia Price of Philadelphia, Pennyslvania, and Ashleigh and Alyson Carpenter, both of Findlay, and Joe, Megan, and Colleen Carpenter of Falls Church, Virginia. To date, there are 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan Butler, Sammie Wilcox, Annie Moro, Donnie Moro, Gideon Treece, Benjamin Butler, Ash Waddell, Malcolm Butler, Lyla Joyce, Robert Butler, and Hale Waddell.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 W. Sandusky St., Findlay. Mary's funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at the funeral home. Pastor Chet Conley will officiate and interment will be alongside her husband, Wayne, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay.
