Mary Cain Obituary

Mary Cain

Mary E Cain, 85, formerly of Findlay, passed away in Springboro, Ohio, Monday, January 12, 2026, after a stroke. Mary was born in Findlay, September 3, 1940, to Charles Dean Campbell and Mildred Jessie Buckingham.

On December 24, 1960, Mary and John E. Cain, son of Donald D. Cain and Martha Geneva Barkimer, were married at Howard United Methodist Church. They spent 64 years together until John's passing in February 2025.

Mary is survived by her daughters (the girls), Lisa (Rick) Dillon of Franklin and Julie (Jan) Abell of Franklin; grandchildren, Jessica (Deric) Lucas of Morrow, Amanda (Nick) Hinds of Cincinnati, Joseph Abell of Frankin, Tyler (Ashley) Dillon of West Carrollton, and Emily (Luke) Alyea of Dayton; great-grandchildren, Gracelynne and Christian Lucas, Olivia, Easton and Noah Hinds, Sutton Brannon and Bellamy Dillon, and Paxton and Parker Alyea; and sister-In-law, Ruthanne Wohlgamuth.

Mary graduated from Findlay High School Class of 1958 and took some classes at Findlay College. She worked at a drugstore before marrying John. After marrying John, they lived in Illinois and Georgia while he was in the United States Air Force.

Mary stayed home with the girls until they were both in school. She volunteered for Child Conservation League (CCL) and was a Campfire Girls leader. She worked as a teacher aide at McKinley and Donnell schools and as a secretary at Findlay High School. At the high school, she worked with over 12 principals, coordinated the student activities budget, and oversaw high school diplomas for many years. She retired in 2002 after 30 years of service.

Mary was a wonderful artist and painted many, many beautiful pictures. She was an animal lover. She had many dogs and cats throughout her life. She also loved sea turtles. After getting a vacation home in Topsail Island, North Carolina, Mary and John volunteered at Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for over 20 years. Teaching about sea turtles, working at the hospital and spending many nights helping sea turtles hatch and make it safely to the ocean.

At Mary's request, there will be a private burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with family. All arrangements are being handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay.
