Mark Rice Obituary

Mark William Rice

Mark William Rice, 65, formerly of Findlay, fell asleep Saturday, May 28, 2022, in Northport, Alabama, and is awaiting the return of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He was born Nov. 23, 1956, in Findlay, to A. Lester and Ruth (Ede) Rice. He was a 1975 graduate of Findlay High School. Mark married Barbara J. Davoll in 1978, and they later divorced. They were parents to Corey M. and Kelly A. Rice, who both survive him. In 2003, he married Laura Wittenmyer Bloomfield, and she also survives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

He is also survived by a brother, Steven (Sally) Rice of Findlay; two stepchildren, Christi (the Rev. Dr. Cliff) Wall and Tony (Tammy) Bloomfield, both of North Carolina; seven loving grandchildren, Grace, Ian, Anna, Silas, Catherine, Benjamin, and Stephen Wall and a Wall child who will be born around January or February 2023; two sisters-in-law, Faith Rice and Teri Wittenmyer; and nieces and nephews throughout the country. He was also brother to Laura's sisters, Patty (Bob) Jensen and Lisa (Vince) Rossi.

Mark was also preceded in death last year by his brother, David; and brother-in-law, Bill Wittenmyer.

Mark was a cherished man who was always willing and able to help friends in any way he could - computer, electrical, wood-working, music, or astronomy. He helped with it all. He was part of three Christian bands in the last 18 years - Kratos in Charlotte, North Carolina and Powerhouse and One Accord of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was an essential part of all the bands, playing the percussion parts and assisting in the recording duties.

He was a faithful disciple of a Way International home fellowship and assisted in the AV of many events throughout the years. He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Findlay.

One of Mark's personal favorite accomplishments was being part of the percussion section of the Findlay Civic Concert Band (directed by Jack Taylor) on their concert tours to Australia and New Zealand in 1992. What a thrill it was for him to play at the Sydney Opera House!

Over the years, Mark worked for several computer companies as a field service agent including Data General, Kodak, Carestream Health, and Fujifilm Medical. His last few years of employment were spent at Coral Industries as an IT specialist in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

No words can express what the loss of Mark means to his family and friends. He was a wonderful, talented man. One of his favorite jobs was being Papa to his grandchildren. Spoiling them was one of his greatest pleasures.

In accordance to Mark's wishes, he was cremated and will be buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, at a later date.

My heart goes out to Mark's wife, family and friends. I will always remember my wonderful childhood memories of he and I playing, as he lived just down the alley from me. He was such a great and funny friend. Rest in Paradise, Mark.

Mark was always friendly and helpful...even back in high school, where we were band mates in the Findlay HS Band. We are poorer for his absence but rejoice in the blessed hope to seeing him in Heaven.
