Mark Mitchell Obituary

Mark Mitchell

Mark Mitchell passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, in Austin, Texas, with his sons by his side.

He was born Feb. 10, 1949, in Johnston, Pennsylvania, to Howard E. Mitchell Jr. and Eleanor Shaver Mitchell and spent his formative years in Findlay, where he achieved notoriety as lead guitarist for the Wanderers: "the rock sound that will rock ANY town!"

He graduated from Findlay High School in 1967 and studied bridge (instead of books) at Northwood Institute in West Baden, Indiana, before joining U.S. Navy and serving on the U.S.. Independence for two years.

Mark then joined the Howard E. Mitchell Jr. Advertising Agency in Findlay, learning the biz from his father before relocating to Toledo for an illustrious career at Widerschein Strandberg, Fahlgren Ferris in Toledo and Cincinnati. Ultimately, he founded Packo Mitchell Hanson and Comer, Mitchell and Comer, Mitchell and Co., Tailford Mitchell, Interupt, Interact and ultimately Whizard Strategy in Boulder where he relocated.

The man could sell and his passion for marketing and branding for package goods and building products and Fortune 500s was infectious.

Clearly, his proudest accomplishments were sons, Blake and Alex, with his former wife, Deb Holden Mitchell. Mark, Blake, and Alex were the best of friends working, traveling, and reveling in life together.

Mark filled his life with art, food, fun socks, and love of family and friends. He laughed loud, lived big, and was a mentor to so many rising marketing stars.

He was previously married to Erin Harshman Mitchell of Toledo.

Mark is survived by his sons, Blake (Christie) and Alexander; siblings, Michael and Maurie Jones (Tom); and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Jonathon Mitchell.

Mark loved a party, so an epic celebration of his fantastic life will be in Toledo in the spring.

I worked with Mark back in the days of PMHC - I was part of their photo division Packo, Lehman, and Roush. I always admired and respected Mark - he had true leadership abilities and was a great mentor for many of us. I remained friends with him after those days passed and we both moved on to different/better things. He always brought a smile to anyone's face who was lucky enough to know him. I am truly saddened by his passing and hope his family and friends can find peace in the memories.

I met mark in Hawai'i, of this year at his son's wedding. His other son Alexander has been my best friend for 15 years. It was truly an honor to finally meet Mark. Even in his last days he was sassy, quick-witted, kind and made me laugh. I send so much love to his family and pray for Mark's useful transition.
