Marcus Berry Obituary

Marcus Leon Berry

Marcus Leon Berry, 77, of Findlay, went home to be with the Lord at 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

He was born Feb. 16, 1946, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, to the late John and Rosa (Smith) Berry.

Marcus, affectionately known as Marc, was married to faithful and dedicated Peggy Riley Berry for 51 years. She survives him along with their two sons, Carlos (Sharon) Berry of Oakland, California, and Marlon (Danita) Berry of Massillon; two grandchildren, Braxton Berry of Cleveland and Timara Berry of Massillon; two brothers, John (Pat) Berry of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Michael (Ashley) Berry of Owensboro, Kentucky; three sisters, Lelia Bentley of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary (Ken) Dugger of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Helena (David) Bowden of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters; two nieces; and one nephew.

Marc relocated to Fostoria in 1965 where he worked part-time at Union Carbide while completing his high school education. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church, Fostoria, in 1968 and was drafted into U.S. Army. He traveled to Fort Devins, Massachusetts for his induction, transferred to Fort Knox, Kentucky, for basic training, and returned to Fort Divens to serve as a cook until his discharge in 1970.

Upon returning to civilian life, Marc resumed his employment at Union Carbide where he worked 25 years before retiring in 1995. He then worked part-time for five years as an inserter at The Courier.

Additionally, Marc rededicated his life to Christ and served faithfully at Bethel Baptist Church. In 1998, he was ordained as Deacon and worked diligently for six years until The Lord directed his path to Faith Hope Love Christian Church, Bowling Green, where he continued his faith journey as a dedicated Deacon.

Marc, a loving devoted family man, thoroughly enjoyed and supported his sons and grandchildren in their combined sports activities. Their participation in those organized sports began in preschool and continued throughout high school and college. Marc was definitely an avid fan of The University of Findlay's football and basketball teams along with Cleveland Browns.

Marc will surely be remembered as "The Candy Man" because he kept a bag filled with various types of candy that he shared with everyone!

Marc's funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by Hancock County Memorial Squad.

Memorial contributions may be made to The University of Findlay athletic department or Faith Hope and Love Christian Church, Bowling Green.
