Lois Prater Obituary

Lois A. Prater

Lois A. Prater, 89, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 4:02 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at Independence House, Fostoria, with family by her side.

Lois was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Carey, the daughter of William D. and Geneva B. (Nutter) Dill. She married Herbert R. Prater on Feb. 5, 1949, in Greenup, Kentucky. Herb preceded her in death Jan. 22, 2009.

Lois was a woman with a big heart, especially when it came to her family. She loved spending time with them. Spoiling the grandchildren was her No. 1 priority. Baking was her specialty, not only for her family, but also for many people in the community. Smiles were put on many faces because of her talent. For relaxation, Lois enjoyed sitting down to a good book. She felt reading helped keep her mind sharp.

Lois leaves behind six children, Judith (David) Kirian of Jacksonville, Florida, Cynthia (Sam) Atkins of Carey, Sarah (Donald) Gois of Weston, Susan (Keith) Stoneburner of Upper Sandusky, Lisa (Samuel) Sherman of Tiffin, and Timothy (Teresa) Prater of Vanlue; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Jane (Roger) Bame of Findlay and Ruth (William) Miller of Bellefontaine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; four brothers, George, Ken, Charlie, and Bill Dill; and two sisters, Margaret Barth and Sarah Swartz.

Lois' funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with Pastor Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.

Friends will be received 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.

Memorial contributions may be made to Doras Carey Public Library or Bridge Home Health and Hospice and sent to the funeral home.

Lois was a special lady who will be missed. She always talked to us at church. Many times I delivered the Upper Room and took flowers to her on her birthday. I remember Nichole came to church with her often.
Prayers of sympathy to all of her family whom she loved dearly. Blessings-Bonnie and Paul
