Deacon Lewis E. Reinhart
Deacon Lewis E. Reinhart, 91, of Fostoria, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Tiffin, to Thomas and Evelyn (Welter) Reinhart. He married Eloise Nye on Oct. 29, 1953, at St. Peter Church, Alvada. His wife of 70 years survives in Fostoria.
Lewis is also survived by 13 children, Lois (Michael) Monday of Vanlue, Judy (Jerry) Gostnell of Alvada, Tim (Stephanie) Reinhart of Alvada, Kevin (Veronica) Reinhart of Fostoria, Glenn (MaryAnn) Reinhart of New Riegel, Fred (Colleen) Reinhart of Tiffin, Alma (Roger) Frankforther of Fostoria, Allen (Kathy) Reinhart of Arcadia, Mark (Amy) Reinhart of Alvada, Edwin (Angie) Reinhart of Fostoria, Brenda (Joe) Weaver of Carey, Irvin (Amy) Reinhart of Tiffin, and Gail Reinhart of Columbus; 54 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ralph Weinandy; sister-in-law, Joanne Reinhart; and stepsister, Susan (Frank) Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Vicki Gostnell; sister, Mary Louise Weinandy; brothers, John and Joseph Reinhart; stepmother, Charlotte (Cooper) Reinhart; stepbrothers, Jack, Bob, and Dave Cooper; and stepsister, Betsy Brunswick.
Lewis was a life-long fifth generation farmer of the family farm and served as a Corporal training recruits in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Atlas Crankshaft for 12 years as a machine operator, retiring in 1964. He then pursued his dream of becoming a full-time farmer. He was called to serve and became an ordained Deacon by the Diocese of Toledo in 1990 serving the current All Saints community, where he organized many of the ministries within the parish. He witnessed 11 marriages and 169 baptisms while serving as Deacon. He was a member of All Saints Parish and formerly of St. Peter's Parish, Alvada, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and Life member of New Riegel American Legion.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2023, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. During visitation, New Riegel American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m., Catholic Order of Foresters will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m., and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will stand from 6-8 p.m. concluding with a service at 8 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9:30-10:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at the parish with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Alvada, with military honors conducted by New Riegel American Legion. Following burial and military honors, there will be funeral luncheon at New Riegel American Legion.
