Leon C. Wood, 93, of Findlay, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at Birchaven Village. He was born on Dec. 5, 1930, in Concord, Massachusetts, to Ray A. and Alma E. (Stevens) Wood.

On April 3, 1955, he married Sally P. Wood, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing on Oct. 6, 2021.

Leon is survived by children, Linda (Larry) Hamilton of Jeffersonville, Ohio, Laura (Lynn) Mercer of Findlay, Ohio, Donna Wood of Gahanna, Ohio and Russell (Ruth) Wood of Camden, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Mark and Stephen Hamilton, Ben (Riley) Mercer, Jacob (Sarah) Mercer, Colin Mercer, David Kelley, Julia (Brandon) Houpt, Nathan (Madison) Wood and Ellen Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Maverick, Maddox, Maksim, Malaki and Mason Mercer and Lily and Ella Mercer, his brother, Herbert of Arizona.

He graduated from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts in1956 with a degree in accounting, and promptly moved to Findlay to begin working for Marathon Oil Company. Leon retired from Marathon in 1986 after working for them for 30 years.

He thoroughly enjoyed genealogy, researching his family back to descendants traveling to Massachusetts on the Mayflower. He was a proud member of Mayflower Society. He also enjoyed bowling and was part of the Marathon Bowling team. He enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids activities and "helping" the coaches whenever he could. Leon tinkered with various woodworking projects and made many items that started as ideas without plans and ended up as unique and useful items. He was a former member of Howard United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the bell choir. He was a current member of St. Paul's Church.

Leon's memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at St. Paul's Church, 218 E. Sandusky St., Findlay. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, immediately prior to the service. Internment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.

We are sadden to hear of the passing of Leon. He was a great co-worker at Marathon but a more highly respected friend. It was a great honor for us to welcome them into the St. Paul's family. Rest in peace.
