Landon Bellavia Obituary

Landon Scott Bellavia

Dr. Landon Scott Bellavia, 40, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, in Findlay.

Landon was born Sept. 15, 1983, in Asheville, North Carolina. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Mars Hill, North Carolina. He grew up there and attended Madison High School where he graduated as Valedictorian in 2001. During his high school years, Landon deeply appreciated the influence his teachers had in his life and this impacted his future career choice. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2006 and completed his Ph.D. in Physics at Wake Forest University.

Landon was an Assistant Professor of Physics at The University of Findlay and had been in that position since 2014. His passion for teaching, willingness to help others, and warm enthusiasm earned the love of colleagues and students. He loved plants, gaming, singing karaoke, writing, and most of all, his family and friends.

Landon is survived by five children; parents, Scott and Alison Bellavia; sister, Erin Bellavia; grandmother, Dorothy Bellavia; and cousins, aunts and uncles. Among these, his cousin and best friend, Jim Horncastle, was especially close.

The family would like to say a heartfelt thanks to members of the community in Findlay who helped navigate the difficult days following Landon's passing. From administrators and fellow professors at the University, to a large group of friends-like-family who shared his interests outside of work, there was an abundant offering of practical help, and kind, loving emotional support.

If anyone wishes to honor Landon's memory with a charitable donation, the family asks that these be made to The University of Findlay. Gifts will benefit the University's College of Sciences and students who pursue science careers. Donations can be made online at give.findlay.edu or mailed to The University of Findlay, 1000 N. Main Street, Findlay, Ohio, 45840. Donations can also be made to American Heart Association.
