Joseph Charles "Chuck" Sear Jr.

Joseph Charles "Chuck" Sear Jr., 80, of Findlay, passed away at his residence Friday, Oct. 25, 2024. He was born Oct. 31, 1943, in Barberton, to the late Joseph C. and Genevieve (Rody) Sear, Sr. He married his wife, Marilyn (Burnley) Sept. 19, 1970, and she survives in Findlay.

Chuck is also survived by his three daughters, Cynthia Lynn Sear, Kathryn Michelle (Kyle) Pflugbeil and Jacqueline Marie (Ryan) Hake; grandchildren, Lauren and Alex Pflugbeil and Sawyer, Adelyn and Harper Hake; sisters, Connie (Bob - deceased) Harrison and Mary (Pat) DeShane; brother-in-law, John W. Burnley; sister-in-law, Barbara Elbon, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Chuck graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School, Akron, in 1961. He attended The University of Akron, earning a bachelor's degree in Marketing. While at Akron University, he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and participated in ROTC. Chuck proudly served in the United States Army as a first lieutenant during the Vietnam War. He worked for Cooper Tire for 36 years, retiring in May 2006 as a traffic manager.

He was a devoted long-time member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Findlay, where he served on many committees and boards. He was a 51-year member of Findlay Knights of Columbus, Council 957, where he served as the financial secretary for 18 years, a past Grand Knight, Knight of the Year, and most notably, a member of the 4th Degree. Among other honors, Chuck was named Veteran of the Year by the governor of Ohio in 2014. He was also a committed member of the Findlay community giving of his time and efforts through various committees, clubs and organizations throughout the city. Chuck greatly enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with his family at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

Visitation for Chuck will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Ave., Findlay, Ohio with a Knights of Columbus Prayer Service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church Downtown Chapel, with the Rev. Adam Hertzfeld officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, where full Military rites will be conferred by Hancock County Veteran Memorial Squad.

Donations in Chuck's memory may be shared through a memorial gift to The National Park Foundation.
